Warning: While we witness the daily joys of these barn owls raising their young, we also witness their daily struggles and cycle-of-life, in detail and in real-time. Please note that some situations may arise that are difficult to watch.
This is a barn owl nesting box. The parents, Romeo and Juliet, had 5 owlets (two passed away). Romeo and Juliet come to the nesting box with food soon after the sun has set. This is a new bonded pair for this nesting box and our first summer clutch, and Romeo and Juliet worked hard to get here. We are excited to witness and share the thrill of new life for a second time this year.
Willow and Aspen are the bonded owl pair that have been returning every year for several years, usually around Christmas time, and they have raised several spring clutches. This year, however, Romeo and Juliet were successful at a hostile takeover of the nesting box for their summer clutch. Luckily, the previous owlets had fledged, but two of the owlets didn’t seem quite ready to leave. Those two owlets, Enso and Peyton, continued to return to the nesting box after fledging. Eventually, Romeo convinced them to leave, and Romeo and Juliet are now raising their family. Enso, however, still frequently visits.

Egg #1: Athena. Laid 5/26/2016 at approximately 12:00 pm. Hatched 6/27/2016 at 12:07 am.
Egg #2: Monty (for Montague). Laid 5/28/2016 at 9:16 am. Hatched 6/28/2016 at 11:50 am.
Egg #3: Opal. Laid 5/30/2016 at 10:00 am. Hatched 6/30/2016 at 10:33 pm.
Egg #4: Zeus. Laid 6/1/2016 at 1:31 pm. Hatched 7/2/2016 at 4:23 am. Died 7/26/2016 at 8:15 am. Zeus passed away due to lack of nourishment/although there was food, he was not fed enough.
Egg #5: Connie. Laid 6/3/2016 at 6:36 pm. Hatched 7/4/2016 at 5:12 am. Died 7/11/2016 at 2:48 pm. Connie passed away due to lack of nourishment/food was limited for all owlets.

0139 Romeo enters and gives Monty a mouse. It's a big one and Monty has to tear it up before swallowing. He has the widest face of all. Athena's wing feathers grow, especially the big ones at the end of the wing.
0226 Juliet gives a mouse to Monty, while an owl sits in the tree on the place, Willows kids preferred.
0236 Juliet comes again with a mouse for Athena. When Juliet comes, the owl in the tree flies away, Athena's mouse is so big, she has to shred it.
0439 Monty eats the rest of a mouse.
